Countries of North America Quiz
North America runs from Canada and the United States, the second- and third-largest countries by area, down through Mexico and the seven countries of Central America to the island nations of the Caribbean. Twenty-three countries in all, and more than half of them are islands.
In a shape quiz the mainland is easy and the Caribbean is where scores are won or lost: Cuba's long curve, the shared island of Hispaniola (Haiti and the Dominican Republic) and the small Eastern Caribbean states that are often confused with one another.
10 questions from 14 countries, four choices each. A new mix every round.
Study tips for North America
- Shapes: Learn Central America as a chain from Guatemala to Panama, the narrowest point. In the Caribbean, Cuba and Jamaica are the big recognisable outlines; the smallest islands have no shape round.
- Flags: Central American flags share blue-white-blue stripes (Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua); Guatemala's run vertically. In the Caribbean, look for the diagonal bands of Saint Kitts and Nevis, Trinidad and Tobago and the Bahamas' triangle.
- Borders: Most of the region's countries are islands with no land neighbours at all, so they never appear in the borders quiz. On the mainland, a country bordering both Mexico and Honduras is Guatemala.
