Today's six expert Sudokus to print, with answers. These are the hardest grids Funzzle makes: almost every one needs an XY-Wing, and some an X-Wing or Swordfish. Each still has exactly one solution that logic alone can reach.
Grid #1 is today's Daily Sudoku. Play it here with the coach, and your time is ranked against today's players.
Expert grids need complete, accurate candidate notes, and they reward a second colour. To find an X-Wing, pick a digit and highlight every cell that still holds it. Look for two rows where the digit can only go in the same two columns: the digit must take one of those columns in each row, so it can be erased from every other cell of those two columns.
An XY-Wing uses three cells with two candidates each: a pivot XY that shares a unit with one cell XZ and another YZ. Whatever the pivot becomes, one wing becomes Z, so any cell that sees both wings can't be Z. Circling the three cells on the printout makes the pattern easy to check.
Six to a page and the answer key printed separately makes a compact expert booklet: one sheet a day for a week is 42 puzzles. Every grid is different each day, so there are no repeats between sheets.
Everything up to the XY-Wing: singles, pointing, pairs and triples, X-Wing and Swordfish, and the XY-Wing itself. Funzzle's expert grids never need guessing or chains longer than an XY-Wing.
They're comparable to the hardest grids in most newspapers. Each is rated by the hardest technique it needs, so every grid on this sheet needs at least one advanced pattern.
Usually 24 to 28. A few have fewer: the grade is set by the techniques needed, and some sparse grids are still mostly singles.
