You don't need pencil marks for these grids. Take one digit at a time, say 1, and look at each 3×3 box that doesn't have a 1 yet. Cross out, in your head or with a light pencil line, every row and column that already holds a 1. If only one empty cell is left in the box, that's where the 1 goes. Work through the digits 1 to 9 and you'll fill most of the grid.
When scanning stops working, look at a nearly full row, column or box and ask which digit is missing from each empty cell. A cell that can only take one digit is a single. Every easy grid on this page can be finished with just those two moves.
Print one grid to a page for younger solvers: the squares are large enough for big handwriting. Six to a page works well as a week's worth of morning work or a warm-up. The answer page lets a student check their own grid, and because every grid has exactly one solution, there's never an argument about whose answer is right.
